Lots of Change in 2011

in Organizational Development (OD)

It’s been several months since I’ve spent any real time blogging. Took some time off to focus on a few things that needed attention. My head is filled with lots of things I would like to share, discuss, hear your thoughts on. For now, a quick update.

My last post talked about the book I was about to embark on co-authoring with Mike Mulvihill(@possibiliteams) and Mary Scannell (bizteamtools.com). Well….we finished! The book was published on November 23 and is available for purchase on Amazon.com. The title is “The Big Book of Virtual Teambuilding Games.” What a great experience it was to not only write a book, but to partner with two wonderful, creative people. I hope you give the book a peek. We had a lot of fun bringing it to fruition and created some fun activities you can use with your virtual team mates.

Another big change was my shift to joining Banner Health’s Organizational Development team as a permanent team member. What a great team! The mad scientists of the OD consulting world in Banner. My time with this shifted again when I took a position as Senior Director on a newly created team, Talent & Organizational Effectiveness. My role is to lead the team that manages leadership development, physician leadership development, and employee development. Whew! I have a brilliant team of talented folks. We are putting in place some really nice enhancements to our leadership development over the past few months. Looking forward to putting some new innovations in place for 2012. More effective use of virtual classrooms, social learning and using coaching as a learning reinforcement tool.

Lastly, I had the opportunity to follow a dream and launch LearnCamp Phoenix (@LearnCampPhx). LearnCamp is an idea I had a few years ago. The idea was to create a Phoenix area learning conference that would provide a broader spectrum of learning opportunities across various learning methods. There are so many people using elearning, classroom delivery, coaching, experiential learning, Organizational Development skills and more to develop people. LearnCamp is about bringing those various modalities into a single conference experience and keeping it at an affordable price so your entire team can go. With the help of ASTD, GMarie Group, Ashford University, Valley of the Sun HR Association(SHRM), and Elearning Guild’s Brent Schlenker we kicked off the first LearnCamp event in November to a great crowd. Many thanks to all who helped with the vital details! We have already started to plan for our next LearnCamp.

Here’s to celebrating change in 2011 and creating lots more in 2012.
